Environment and Military Conflicts

The hostilities in the latest Lebanon war brought about environmental damage to both countries natural resources. According to the UN Convention on the Prohibition of Military or Any Other Hostile Use of Environmental Modification Techniques, it is prohibited to use military action which is destructive to the environment. This Convention does not apply to the present case as it was not ratified neither by Israel nor Lebanon. This article looks into international law that may be invoked in relation to environmental destruction during wars.
